From 26 October 2026, our practice is taking part in Enable, an official Government pilot. If you need a fit note for more than 7 days because your health affects work or a benefit claim, we will send you a link to book with Enable instead of issuing the fit note at the practice.

What is Enable?

Enable is a new NHS work and health service. A work and health professional will talk with you about how your health affects your work, and what might help.

What is a Workability Plan?

A plan you agree with Enable together. It can show:
• what you can do at work
• changes that could help, like shorter hours
• what to avoid for now
• time off sick, if you need it
• when it will be reviewed

What happens?

• Tell us your health is stopping you from working.
• We send you Enable’s self-booking link.
• You use the link to book a chat with Enable.
• In work: Enable issues your fit note, and you may also choose a Workability Plan.
• Out of work: Enable issues the fit note you need for your benefit claim.
• Enable discusses reasonable adjustments with your employer IF you agree.

Your choices

✓ The Workability Plan and additional work and health support are voluntary. You can stop at any time.
✓ You can still be signed off sick if you need to be.
✓ Your GP still looks after your health and treatment.
✓ Your employer is not told your diagnosis.
✓ Enable only contacts your employer if you agree.
✓ Taking part will not affect your benefits.

For employers

Enable will issue your employee’s fit note. If they choose to share a Workability Plan, it will explain what they can and can’t do and what support may help.

Off sick for 7 days or less?

You do not need a fit note or a plan. You can self-certify with your employer.
